Goodbye Photoshop, Hello Affinity Photo!!!

Well, it has been practically two months since I started using Affinity Photo as my photo edited and stopped using Adobe Photoshop. And so far, I have not missed Photoshop. actually I am loving Affinity Photo a lot. I find that it can do everything Photoshop can do and at times better and faster. Recently I opened Photoshop and realized how really slow it was at opening even on my 2013 16GB iMac. Photo on the other hand opens so fast that I get whiplash watching it open. And after two months of using Affinity Photo, I am getting familiar with it just as I did with Adobe Photoshop. Plus, with Affinity Publisher out, it works seamlessly with Publisher and Affinity Designer. And of course you can't beat the price ($50 USD).

This is the last move for me from Adobe. Earlier this year, I stopped using Adobe Lightroom and switch to ON1 Photo Raw and eventually I am think of dropping my Adobe subscription since price has gone up. As much as I loved Adobe over the years and been using Adobe Photoshop since late 1980s (I guess you can say from the beginning), things have changed with more applications to choose from. The only downside with Affinity Photo is the lack of plugins. I wish plugin makers would stop just supporting Photoshop and add support for other photo editing applications. Hopefully that will change as more people switch to Affinity Photo.

Photo Art: New Corel Painter 2020 is Out!

I updated my Corel Painter to the new Corel Painter 2020. While I am not a artist, I do like Painter's auto painting feature, BUT this time I try to do the work by my own hand. And I think I still suck at being a painter or similar. Maybe an abstract artist.

Before and After: Slippery When Wet

So here is a picture I took along my favorite bike trail. I decided to give it a vintage effect using ON1 Photo Raw 2019.

Editing:
Started with a basic HDR Look filter to bring out some details. Next came a Black & White filter using the Coffee preset and then a LUTs Rome filter was then added. A Tone Enhancer was then applied to darken the outer corners of the image. I then added a film texture I found online years ago and then a Lens Blur was added to parts of the image. The photo was then finished off with a antique border to finish off the effect.

Before and After: Framed Corvettes

Here is a shot from 2017 Corvettes at Roscoe Village in Coshocton, Ohio, edited with ON1 Photo Raw 2019.

Editing:
After doing some basic raw processing in Photo Raw, I headed over to the Effects panel. I started with the Tone Enhancer to open up the Blacks and bring in the Whites. Next came a Photo Filter and used the Tobacco preset. Next, I used a Curves filter to darken parts of the photo and a postcard texture was then added. Finish off with a simple white letterbox frame.

Color vs BW: Fall Colors 2018

I know it is summer, but I am finally sharing a color versus black & white of a shot I took last fall at Honey Run Falls. Do prefer the color version or the black and white version?
