Schnormeier Gardens Open House 2019

Schnormeier Gardens located outside Gambier, Ohio is open to the public during final weekend of June. I was able to get there today with very very few visitors by getting to the gate early before the crowds. The private gardens have a asian theme with a Japanese teahouse for example. This year, for the first time, I took my mother along who never been the gardens. All the hills definitely worn her out. Well, here is one picture I took while there with plenty of more to go through.

Cover Design: The Classics

Last week, Serif released Affinity Publisher, a alternative document layout application to Adobe's InDesign. The application is the latest in their lineup of applications that gives designers, photographers and other creative people a chose that does not require a subscription. Other applications from Serif include Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer, and each application cost only $50 each with free updates. I have all three applications and impress at how fast they run and I can basically almost do everything I would do in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign. Publisher is missing some things that InDesign has, wish they had a packaging feature and separation previewer. But hopefully Serif will add those features in a later update. So, I am taking Affinity Publisher for a spin by designing a magazine cover for fun.

Affinity Publisher Is Here!

Serif has released Affinity Publisher!



The document layout application is the latest in the Affinity applications and is design to compete with Adobe InDesign. Unlike Adobe applications which require a subscription, Affinity apps are buy it and it is yours. Prices for Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer, and now Affinity Publisher are around $50 each. While I do recommend Affinity Photo as a Adobe Photoshop replacement and Affinity Designer as a nice alternative to Adobe Illustrator, I just installed Affinity Publisher and have yet to take it for a spin. Since it is the first version, there are expected to be bugs. BUT, I am sure Affinity Publisher will be a great alternative to InDesign.
