Before and After: Rastin Tower

A shot from last summer of the Rastin Observation Tower in Ariel-Foundation Park in Mount Vernon, Ohio. The tower was once a smoke stack that was part of an old glass factory. The factory was torn down when the land it sat on became part of the park. But the smoke stack was kept and converted into a observation tower.

Before and After: Head Down

Here is a before and after from a shot I took last year during the Pelotonia event held in central Ohio. All post processing was done using only Adobe Lightroom CC. Since then, I have switch to ON1 Photo Raw for processing my photos.

New Canon EOS RP

Canon is coming out with a full-frame mirrorless camera! At a price around $1700+ for body, lens, and a EF mount. Maybe the day I go mirrorless might happen sooner like next year.

Before and After: The White Baron

Taking a picture I shot in June 2017 from the yearly WACO Reunion event held on last weekend of June. The event is held at the Wynkoop Airport in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Flyers fly in for the event from various parts of the country to this small grass runway airport in which they spent two to three days at. This years 60th Anniversary will be June 25th to the 30th, they added two extra days to offer people more opportunity to come out to check out this vintage planes. The vintage aircrafts come from the Waco Aircraft Company (WACO) which was located in Troy, Ohio (USA) and were produced between 1919 and 1947. You can read the history of the Waco Company here.

For the editing of this photo, I used only ON1 Photo Raw 2019. After doing some basic adjustments in the Develop section, I moved to the Effects to create a photo that had some vintage look. First, I started with a LUTs called Vintage Matte (Rome). Next, I applied a cool Vintage filter and then a Tone Enhancer to increase the Contrast. Color Adjustment filter was then added to adjusted the Red, Yellow and Green in the photo by Hue/Saturation as well as the brightness. I then added a Curves filter with a slight S-curve. To give the photo a more vintage look, I added a postcard texture with the Textures filter. Then a tilt shift blur was applied with the Lens Blur filter and a subtle vintage was added. The photo was finished off with a sloppy border (no.3).

Before and After: Leaves on the River

Needs a little imagination to take a simple photo and turn it into something interesting. This picture was photographed at Honey Run Falls park just outside Millwood, Ohio. It is just a plain simple shot of some leaves just floating on the river surface. Using ON1 Photo Raw, I was able to take it to a new level. With boosting the colors, add some warmth, some light leak, a little bit of lens blur and a cool border, this simple plain photo become something that is a eye catcher!

Before and After: Beams Sculpture

One of the interesting things you will find in Ariel-Foundation Park are these sculptures made from steel beams and painted red. These red beams sculptures can be found around parts of the park and at the various entrances to the park. This particular sculpture can be found on the southwest end of the park on top of a hill over looking the southern lake. There are benches to sit and enjoy the view of the city park especially on a nice summer day.

Before and After: Bridge of No People

Going back to Schnormeier Gardens, the gardens are opened to the public in June once a year. Because of this and the fact the gardens are popular, a lot of people tend to come and one just seems to be unable to take a photo without people in the shot. In comes Adobe Photoshop and any other photo edited that let's you remove people from your pictures.

Editing:
Starting in Adobe Lightroom CC, I did some minor adjustments starting with bringing down the Highlights and opening the Shadows. Also, I increased the Clarity and the Vibrance. Moving onto Photoshop, I first removed the people from the picture using Content-Aware and the Clone Tool. Next, I added a Curves adjustment layer to add a vignette. Then a Photo Filter adjustment layer set to Warming Filter (85) to give the photo some warmth. And finally, I added a Levels adjustment layer with a gradient to darken the lake.

Before and After: Red Flower and Butterfly

One of the great things about visiting The Brown Family Environmental Center is seeing the busy bees and the butterflies flying from one flower to the next. I am still working on shooting bees and butterflies and I do at times get lucky at getting a good shoot like this one.

Editing:
The editing was done using ON1 Photo Raw. I started with a LUTs called Elton followed by a Color Enhancer in which I boosted the reds and oranges with saturation. I boosted them even more with a Color Adjustment and added a slight S-curve with the Curves filter. Then added a Big Softy Vignette with a Light Leak 5 Texture. I applied a Tilt Shift Lens Blur and set at an angle. Finally finished it off with simple Letter Box Black border.
